Obituary

Francis Edward Conley born 7-28-1946, age 72 of Clark, NJ entered into eternal rest on Saturday, January 5th, 2019. The essence of his being will live on through his children and grandchildren for generations.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Visitation at Walter Johnson Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 9 from 4 - 8 pm. The Funeral Service will be on Thursday at 10:00 am at the Funeral Home. Entombment will follow in St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia.

Francis was born in Jersey City, NJ to Patrick & Antoinette Conley. He attended Jersey Academy High School in Jersey City where he played Middle Linebacker on their football team. Thereafter, he attended and graduated from Upsala College in NJ where he majored in History. In college he played football for a year and was a founding member and eventual Vice President of the Camel Drivers Fraternity.

Francis started his career as a history teacher in Rahway. At age 29 he started work with Exxon at their Bayway Chemical Refinery Plant in Linden, NJ. He retired at age 59 after 30 years. He worked for many years as a process operator in the Teamsters Union and retired as a Shift Supervisor.

Frank was the original founder and first President of the Clark Soccer Club. He coached and refereed for many years in the league. The Club is still in existence and thriving today almost forty years later.

Frank was an avid reader. He had a great knowledge of world history and an expert knowledge of military history, specifically World War II. His Father served in WWII and was in the US Navy on the battleship South Dakota. In his lifetime Frank had read over 200 non - fiction books alone on World War II and many more on other topics. In addition, he had read countless articles and watched many documentaries on the subject of WWII. Frank was an annual contributor to the Wounded Warriors Project, a charity for deployed troops and military families.

Francis is survived by his beloved wife Patricia Ann (Groshans ) Conley; his devoted sons, Sean Edward Conley and his wife Linda and Ryan Edward Conley and his girlfriend Maria and his cherished grandchildren, Sean Raymond, Stephen Francis and Jason Edward Conley and Maria's son Brandon.
