Joseph J. Sbarro, 87, of Clark, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, August 15, 2019 surrounded by his loving family.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the Visitation at the Walter Johnson Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 20 from 4 - 8 pm. The Funeral begins at the Funeral Home on Wednesday at 9:00 am, thence to St. John the Apostle Church, Clark, where a Funeral Mass will be offered at 10:00 am. Entombment will follow in St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia.

Mr. Sbarro was predeceased by his parents, James and Margaret (Patch) Sbarro. He proudly served his country in Navy during the Korean War. He lived in Kearny, prior to moving to Clark 58 years ago.

Mr. Sbarro was a Salesman and Driver for Hostess Cake of Woodbridge for 42 years, retiring many years ago. He was a member of the #1 Club and was the top Salesman in the country.

Mr. Sbarro was a member of the Clark Volunteer Emergency Squad for 56 years, serving as Captain and Chaplain for several years. He was a First Aid Instructor for 25 years for the American Red Cross. At St. John the Apostle Church he was an Usher, a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and head of the money counting team. In Clark, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #5503, the American Legion Post #328, the VFW Post #7363 and the Deutscher Club. He also coached Clark Little League for many years. In 1981 Mr. Sbarro was awarded “Clark Citizen of the Year” by B’nai B’rith. He especially loved spending time with his family on Long Beach Island. He was an avid Yankee fan.

Mr. Sbarro is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Trudy (Hahn) Sbarro; his devoted children, Donna Rufalo and her husband Robert, Elaine Chiarella and her husband Michael, James Sbarro and his wife Maria, Kathy Faede and her husband Thomas, Joseph Sbarro and his partner Metter Chin and Michael Sbarro and his wife Patricia; his cherished grandchildren, Nicole, Robert, Jaclyn, Craig, Gina, Michelle, Danielle, Anthony, Joseph, Christina, Alyssa, Leah, Tyler, Jessica and Vincent; his 7 great grandchildren; his dear sister Marilyn McClusky and many loving nieces and nephews..
