Louis J. Peragallo, 92, of Colonia, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, October 3, 2019 at home surrounded by his loving family.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the Visitation at the Walter Johnson Funeral Home, 803 Raritan Rd., Clark, on Sunday, October 6 from 5 - 9 pm. The Funeral begins on Monday at 9:45 am at the Funeral Home, thence to the St. John Vianney Church, Colonia, where a Funeral Mass will be offered at 10:45 am. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Linden.

Mr. Peragallo was born in Newark to Joseph and Maria (Mangini) Peragallo. He proudly served his country during WWII in the US Army from 1946-1948 as a Technician 5th grade (Corporal). He received his BS in Health and Physical Education Panzer College and Master of Arts from NYU. He was a resident of Colonia for 63 years.

Mr. Peragallo began his career in Education at Panzer College from 1949-1955, then Orange High School in1955 and lastly at Arthur L Johnson High School (ALJ) in Clark from 1956-1992 as a Teacher, Coach and Athletic Director.
Coach Peragallo helped start the athletic program at ALJ and served as the driving force behind its growth and development and upon his retirement the main gymnasium was named in his honor.

Over the years he taught and coached at Panzer College and at ALJ he coached varsity soccer, basketball and baseball and served as Athletic Director from 1960 to his retirement in 1992. He is a member of the Panzer College Hall of Fame, Director of Athletics Association of NJ Hall of Fame and was inducted into the inaugural Hall of Fame class at ALJ.

Mr. Peragallo was also an Adjunct professor at Kean University where he supervised student teachers. As a teacher, coach and administrator he served as an excellent example of honesty, dignity, integrity and character. He has had a profound influence on literally thousands of his students, colleagues and friends over the years.

Mr. Peragallo was a member of American Legion Post 328 of Clark and the Director of Athletics Association of NJ (DAANJ). He enjoyed watching the Yankees and NY Giants, playing golf, gardening and watching his grandchildren participate in athletic events

Mr. Peragallo is survived by his beloved wife, Florence (Jakiel) Peragallo, with whom he just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary; his devoted children, Bruce Peragallo, Ronald Peragallo and his wife Cheryl, Wayne Peragallo and his wife Maureen, Gary Peragallo and his wife Alane and Tracy Accardi and her husband Michael; his 11 cherished grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister Teresa Garrity.
