She is survived by four children, Donna Weeks and her husband William, John Swiontkowski and his wife Maureen, Beth Mergott and her husband William and Jude Swiontkowski, brothers, Robert and Richard Cirasa, four grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.

Marian had a diverse life and career. Born and raised in Elizabeth, she graduated Battin, Elizabeth’s all-girl High School. She married in 1948 and became a steadfast mom and homemaker, raising children, providing strength and emotional support to all her family while still managing to volunteer with organizations in need like local woman’s clubs, town committees, local Catholic churches, community theater, and soup kitchens.

With perfect clerical skills, she excelled with Manpower staffing agency. She moved on to medical office management with Union County Doctors Reed, Kaufman, Jain and Feldman. She also provided public relations consulting for physicians. She served as President of the Board of Trustees of the Union County Psychiatric Clinic. While employed full time she pursued a degree in English/Communications at Kean College, graduating at age 54. She enjoyed acting locally and was known for her unique One Woman Teller of Tales presentation, which featured dramatic interpretations of classic and modern literature.

She became the Chief Legislative Aide/Public Affairs Specialist for Senator Raymond Lesniak and Assemblymen Deverin and Hudak. In 1983 she co-authored Play It Safe for the County Sheriff’s Office. The booklet, a guide to prevent children from abduction and molestation, became a model for local, state, and federal agencies.

She then became Deputy Director, Recyling Division of Union County Utilities Authority before retiring. There she led traditional and non-traditional integrated waste programs. One project was for fluorescent bulb recycling from large corporations. The plan prevented 99% of the mercury from those bulbs from entering the waste stream
