Obituary

Nicola “Nick” Stiso of Clark, passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 19, 2018 in his home that he enjoyed so much the past 38 years.

Born in Jersey City to Nicola and Lucia (Costambile) Stiso on June 23, 1923, Nick had also lived in Newark and Irvington before moving to Clark. He served as a Staff Sergeant in the Army Air Corp from 1942 to 1945 and fought along with 4 of his brothers, (James, Frank, Edward and Hiram) in WWII.

After the war, Nick married the former Josephine Tarantino of Newark, the love of his life for 64 years. Together they raised 4 children, Nick, Victor, Gregory and Marylou. Nick also attended Newark College of Engineering and graduated with a Mechanical Engineering degree. He worked as a driving instructor until being employed at Singer Kearfott in Little Falls, where he worked for 42 years. There he helped develop the gyroscope component of guidance systems for various types of aircraft and space vehicles. Some of these systems were used to successfully guide the Saturn V Rocket that carried the Apollo astronauts to the moon. They also helped Neal Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin safely reach the moon in the Apollo 11 mission.

Nick enjoyed sports and was an avid NY Yankees and Pittsburgh Steelers fan. A crossword puzzle lover, he also loved family outings at Monmouth Park Race Track. Most of all, Nick enjoyed spending time with his family including the many nieces and nephews he loved and was devoted to.

Nick was predeceased by his beloved wife Josephine and his siblings, Joseph, James, Frank, Edward, George, Mildred and Hiram.

Nick is survived by his children, Nick, Victor and his wife Terri, Gregory and Marylou and her husband Tom Colicchio; his grandchildren, Andrew and his wife Cheryl, Danielle and Thomas and great granddaughter, Alina.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his memory to the Disabled American Veterans, Dept. of NJ 171 Jersey Street, Bldg. 5, 2nd Fl,, Trenton, NJ 08618.
