Patrick J. Toner, 59, of Roselle, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, October 28, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the Visitation at the Sullivan Funeral Home, 146 East Second Street, Roselle on Thursday, November 1 from 4 - 8 pm. The Funeral begins on Friday at 9:00 am at the Funeral Home, thence to the Church of St. Joseph the Carpenter, Roselle, where a Funeral Mass will be offered at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Westfield.

Patrick was born in 1959 to MaryAnn (Brown) and Gerald Toner. He lived in Roselle his entire life. A graduate of Roselle Catholic High School, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a Postal Clerk in Rahway for 36 years, before retiring in 2015.

Pat was well known within the Jersey music community, performing with a number of bands over 45 years, most notably with JoBonnano and the Godsons of Soul, where he was affectionately known as “Soul Cat”. Over the years he performed with many prominent musicians, including Bruce Springsteen. He was a prolific composer who was gifted with a beautiful singing voice.

In later years, he performed independently, and donated his time and talents to entertaining veterans and other groups at their request. He performed in support of charities, including many years in the “Light of Day” concerts to support research for Parkinson’s disease, and never missed an opportunity to raise funds wherever needed. His voice, his stories, and his upbeat spirit will be missed by so many, including international friends.

Pat is survived by his wife of 36 years, Jean (Walko), with whom he enjoyed traveling to new adventures around the country. Predeceased by his parents, he leaves his sister Kathleen (Bill) Fabian of Monroe, his sister Maureen (Tim) Bongard of Arizona and his sister Eileen (Ray) Hagemann of Belford. He also leaves behind his nephew and best buddy, Matt O’Neill, nephews, Matt (Michelle) Fabian, Mark Fabian, Ryan Hagemann, Joe Bongard, and nieces Seana Fabian, Kate Vlachos, Mary Vlachos, Abigail Lambert, great-niece Megan Fabian, four-legged nephew Charlie, and too many friends to name.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
