Resided in Somerset, New Jersey

Kimberly (Kim) A. Thorne died peacefully in her sleep on the morning of October 7, 2017 following a recent illness. She was 55.

Kim was born June 24, 1962 to James and Norma (Stapfer) Glendon in Boonton, NJ. She grew up in Parsippany, NJ and graduated from the Parsippany Hills High School in 1980. As a young woman, Kim loved participating in the color guard and the youth group at the United Methodist Church of Parsippany. At an early age she also developed her life-long love for doing crafts and reading many, many books.

After high school, Kim attended Russell Sage College in Troy, NY, and graduated in 1982 with a bachelor’s degree in physical therapy. She married Steven D. Thorne in Morristown, NJ in 1984. Kim and Steve lived in the greater-Boston area for eight years, and have lived in Somerset, NJ since 1994.

Kim was a member of Evangel Church in Scotch Plains, NJ, serving in numerous capacities in the women’s and children’s ministries there over the last 20 years. She was also very active in the Franklin Township school system, serving as PTO president and working as a substitute teacher for many years. She has been a leader with the Franklin Women’s Club and has served there as co-president. In recent years, she loved working as an early-intervention physical therapist, helping children overcome disabilities and teaching the parents how they can best help their children.

Kim is survived by her husband Steve (Somerset, NJ), daughter Meghan (Morristown, NJ), two sons, Steven Jr. with his wife Irina (Mt. Laurel, NJ) and Jonathan (Somerset, NJ), her parents, James and Norma Glendon (Parsippany, NJ) and her sister Kathy Glendon (Rockaway, NJ). She is predeceased by her grandparents, Ernst and Irma Stapfer and her uncle and aunt, Frank and Beverly Stapfer.

Visitation will be held at the Walter Johnson Funeral Home in Clark, NJ on Oct. 11 (1 to 3, and 6 to 8), and a funeral service will be held Oct. 12 at 10 am at Evangel Church in Scotch Plains, NJ. A brief graveside service will also be held for family members only.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like to encourage people who would like give to make a donation to either Embrace Kids Foundation (, an organization dedicated to lightening the burden of families whose children are facing cancer or other serious health challenges, or Doctors Without Borders (, an organization of doctors and other health care professionals dedicated to providing medical assistance to populations in distress.
