Robert L. Kastner, 95years and 11 months, of Clark, entered into eternal rest on Friday, April 20, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the Funeral from the Walter Johnson Funeral Home, 803 Raritan Rd. Clark on Tuesday, April 24 at 9:30 am, thence to the Reformed Church of Linden, where a Funeral Service will be offered at 10:30 am. Interment will follow in Hazelwood Cemetery, Clark. Visiting hours will be on Monday, from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 pm.

Robert was born in Linden to Albert and Dorothy Kastner. He attended Linden Public Schools, graduating from Linden High School in 1941, where he played Offensive End on the football team. He was a member of the ALJRHS Alumni Associates Hall of Fame. He received his BA in Education from Rutgers University and his Master’s degree in Education from Montclair State. He was a member of the Rutgers Alumni Association. He was a resident of Clark for 72 years.

Mr. Kastner proudly served his country as an Ensign in the Coast Guard during WWII in the North Atlantic and the Pacific on the Grand Island ship and the Modok ship. He was a member of the Coast Guard Combat Veteran’s Association. He was recognized for his Coast Guard wartime services, receiving the Commandants Challenge Coin from Admiral Thad Allen.

Mr. Kastner was a Teacher in the Business Department at Linden High School for 3 years, then at Arthur L. Johnson High School for 27 years, retiring in 1984.

Mr. Kastner was an active member at the Reformed Church of Linden, serving as a Deacon, and Elder and a Choir member as well as the church bowling team. In Clark, he was also a member of the Deutscher Club, the American Legion Post 328, the VFW Post 7363 and the Gran Centurions.

Mr. Kastner is survived by his beloved wife of 75 years, Edna May (Stewart) Kastner; his devoted children, Robert S. Kastner and his wife Linda and Valerie C. Boyle and her husband William; his cherished grandchildren, Kristin, Lisa, Nicole, Ryan, Stacy, Dana, Stephanie, Jacklyn and Tyler; 8 great grandchildren and his dear sisters, Pamela Bayer and her husband Steve and Gladys Krause and her husband Claude.
