Obituary

Peter A. Scocca, Sr., 85, of Clark, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, September 19, 2018.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the Funeral from the Walter Johnson Funeral Home, 803 Raritan Rd., Clark, on Saturday, September 22 at 10:00 am, thence to St. Agnes Church, Clark, where a Funeral Mass will be offered at 11:00 am. Entombment will follow in St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia. Visiting hours will be on Friday from 4 - 8 pm.

Mr. Scocca was born on June 4, 1933 in Bayonne to Gustave and Antoinette (Tedesco) Scocca. He graduated from St. Peter’s College in Jersey City in 1955. He taught History at St. Aloysius High School from 1956 to 1958 and then at Jonathon Dayton Regional High School in Springfield from 1958 to 1976, where he was also the Videographer for the Football team and a Coach of Bowling, Track and Field and Soccer. Mr. Scocca was also a Salesman with Bell Appliances of Union, Manager of Echo Lanes Bowling Center in Mountainside and a Bus Driver for Academy Bus Co. of Hoboken.

From 1971 to 2009 he was the Owner of Vista Tours Travel Inc. in Colonia. He served on the Advisory Boards of United Airlines Apollo Travel Systems, Walt Disney Travel Co. and American Express Travel Related Services, where he was the recipient of the American Express Top 50 Representatives Award. He was also a member of Skal International - Promoting Global Tourism and Friendship and ASTA - American Association of Travel Advisors.

From 1990 to 2013 he was also the Owner of Vistar Properties in Colonia and from 1988 to 1991 the Owner of Roselle Lanes Bowling Center in Roselle.

Mr. Scocca was a member of the I.A.A.B.O. Board 33 of Basketball Officials Association, an Executive Board Member of Board 33, the recipient of the Corrigan Award for Outstanding Service and Dedication to Board 33 and a High School NCAA Basketball Official.

Mr. Scocca was also a Board Member of the Gran Centurions in Clark and the Knights of Columbus, St. James Council in Springfield.

Mr. Scocca is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Marion (Ruchalski) Scocca; his devoted children, Reneé Ann Dragona and her husband Gary, Peter A. Scocca II and his wife Robin and Janet D’Andrea and her husband Matthew; his cherished grandchildren, Gary Dragona and his wife Nicole, Lauren Breen and her husband Chris, Peter Scocca and his wife Danielle, Michael Scocca and his wife Laura, Nicole Grygo and her husband Andrew and Paul Scocca and 7 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister, Itana Branche.
