Obituary

Rudolph Nicholas Apruzzi, 80, of Westfield, N.J., passed away peacefully on Monday, Dec. 10, 2018, surrounded by family and the wonderful staff of Bayside Manor Assisted Living in Keansburg.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2018, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Walter J. Johnson Funeral Home, 803 Raritan Rd., Clark, N.J. The celebration of Rudy's life will be offered there on Friday, Dec. 14, 2018, starting at 9 a.m. at the Funeral Home, followed by Mass at 10:00 am at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Westfield. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Westfield, N.J.

Rudy was born in Jersey City, N.J., and grew-up in Newark where he graduated from Westside High School. He served our country first in the N.J. Army National Guard and then with the U.S. Army where he worked as an air defense artilleryman in Texas. There he gained an affinity for cowboy hats that served his family well in always knowing where he was.

In 1963 he started working on the shop floor of the Sabin Robbins Paper Co., retiring 39 years later as the operations manager of their New Jersey office.

Rudy took great pride in his work, home improvement projects and taking care of his family. In retirement he enjoyed traveling with family, volunteering with the Westfield Community Players and the occasional cigar. He will be remembered for his sense of responsibility and quiet dignity. He was loved by many and will be dearly missed.

Rudy was predeceased by Pege, his devoted wife of 52 years, his parents Joseph and Angelina, brother Alfred and brothers-in-law Alex Ierubino and Robert Park.

He is survived by his son, Nicholas and daughter-in-law Ann Marie, his sister, Angelina and brother-in-law Walter Koehler; his sister, Mary Ierubino, sister-in-law, Peggy Park, sister-in-law Joanne Apruzzi; niece, June Plesh, N.J.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Westfield Volunteer Rescue Squad, 335 Watterson St., P.O. Box 356, Westfield, N.J. 07090.
