Obituary

James H. Lissemore, 84, of Scotch Plains, NJ, passed away peacefully after a long illness on Saturday, May 4, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his cherished wife of 60 years, Alice (Mansfield) Lissemore; his six devoted children: James (Frances) of Cleveland Heights, OH, Lorraine Matthews (Michael) of Cary, NC, Lois Melka (David) of Summit, NJ, Richard (Eliran Avni) of New York City, Nancy Lissemore (Daniel TumSuden) of Scotch Plains, NJ, and Pamela Cipparulo (Peter) of Hillsborough, NJ. Also survived by fourteen cherished grandchildren: Timothy Matthews, Emma Lissemore, Alison Matthews, Christopher Melka, Kevin Lissemore, Victoria Cipparulo, Olivia TumSuden, Andrew Melka, Sophia TumSuden, William Matthews, Julia Cipparulo, Daniel Melka, Marie Grace Cipparulo, and Peter Cipparulo.

Born in Hoboken, NJ to Leonard and Henrietta (Mork) Lissemore, he was raised in Union City, NJ, and was educated in Union County Catholic schools. He proudly served his country as an aerial navigator in the United States Marine Corps Airwing during the Korean War and remained a loyal Marine to the very end of his life. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Business from Pace University and did further graduate studies at New York University Graduate School of Business Administration. An entrepreneur throughout his life, Mr. Lissemore was the owner and President of Regent Graphex, Inc., a commercial printing firm in Pine Brook, NJ for three decades. In 1996, in semi-retirement, he established Flexo-Notaries, Inc, a mobile notary corporation that allowed him to travel throughout central and northern New Jersey notarizing documents. He maintained his professional pursuits up until a year before his death.

In his early years of fatherhood, he devotedly served as a Boy Scout Webelo leader and later as fundraiser and Chairman of Troop 337 in Emerson, NJ, where he raised his family for three decades. He never turned down an opportunity to go fishing, whether it be in the middle of the Atlantic or on the tiniest lakes of New Jersey. An enthusiastic amateur chef, he regularly created culinary wonders with everything from fish and seafood to steaks and ribs. He loved fellow Hobokenite Frank Sinatra throughout his life and enjoyed many years of musical and theatrical adventures with his wife in New York City. An avid reader of multiple daily newspapers and historical biographies, he and Alice also enjoyed many memorable adventures in Europe, the Caribbean, and beyond. His larger than life personality and wonderful sense of humor and wit were always on full display as he regaled family, friends, and even complete strangers with his always interesting and often hilarious adventures. Loyalty was a defining character trait and kindness to strangers a hallmark of his life. Semper Fi, Lance Corporal Lissemore.
