Obituary

Patricia Colleen McGovern, 98, formerly of Roselle Park, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, September 10, 2019.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the Visitation at Sullivan Funeral Home, 146 East 2nd Ave., Roselle, on Tuesday, September 17 from 4-8 pm. The Funeral begins on Wednesday at 10:00 am, thence to Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia for an Entombment Service at 11:00 am.

Mrs. McGovern was born in Brest, France to Francis and Ann (Keenan) Wilson. She lived in Dublin, Ireland, Brooklyn, NY, Roselle Park for 68 years, prior to moving to Prescott, AZ 2 years ago.

Mrs. McGovern graduated from Brown’s Business College with a two year degree. She began her career in Banking as one of the first walk-up Bank Teller’s in Harlem & Brooklyn, NY. She then was a Bank Teller at National State Bank in Roselle Park for 10 years. She was a former member of the Rosary Society of Church of St. Joseph the Carpenter and a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. She was also President of the Benedictine Academy Mothers' Club.

Mrs. McGovern enjoyed sewing, knitting, reading, walking and playing cards. She was a lover of chocolate and hats. She especially enjoyed baking cookies at Christmas and Irish Soda Bread on St. Patrick’s Day. She was a lover of dogs, cats and birds over the years. She was very social, giving hugs without warning!

Mrs. McGovern had many favorite sayings:: “If I felt any better, they’d put me in jail”, “It’s all in the mind, mo daor” (gaelic for my dear), “If that’s the worst that ever happens to you, you’ll be well away” and “Let wanting be your master”.

Mrs. McGovern was the beloved wife of the late Francis Joseph McGovern; the devoted mother of Patricia Kozzi and her husband Leonard, Margaret Bokelman and her husband Robert, Michael McGovern and his wife Pamela, Maureen McGovern and her late husband Joaquin Bustoz and Timothy McGovern and his wife Diane; the cherished grandmother of Alexander Kozzi, Colleen Sanchez and her husband Leonard, Sara McGovern and her husband Paul Beyder, Andrew McGovern and his wife Stephanie Mansfield, Rachel McGovern and her husband Robert Niemczyk, John McGovern and Brian McGovern; great grandmother of Thomas Sanchez; and dear sister-in-law of Mary Gardner and her late husband Rollin, Dianne McGovern and her late husband James, the late William and Jane McGovern, the late John and Victoria McGovern and the late Thomas McGovern. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
